Because I’ve been where you are right now. Oh, I’ve seen it all. I’ve been involved with so many different companies and scammy web sites that I could probably spend days writing about those. But, finally, there was one thing that helped me achieve my goal of working for myself and creating a residual income home business.

Yup, there I was sitting in my cubicle. Wore out from another exhausting morning trying to get my kids out of the

door so that I could make it to work on time. (Working in an office environment is funny. You have to be to work on time even though you spend the first hour getting coffee and discussing last night’s American Idol.) Feeling frustrated because I have to deal with people treating me like a child, even though I have two of my own. Bored because they aren’t using my talents in the right way. And worried because even though I’m getting a good, steady paycheck, it isn’t enough. Then, it happened. I was laid off. Unemployed.

Well, that made me get my you-know-what in gear because going on interviews and trying to pretend I wanted another job where I had to sit in a cubicle all day was not working for me.

And let me tell you, I tried it all. I got sucked into pyramid schemes. I joined MLM companies. (In case you didn’t know, recruiting people into a system under you is HARD and eventually, the guy at the bottom loses. I know because I was the guy at the bottom. ) I even tried HYIPs which is basically the same as gambling. And I tried working a more legitimate MLM home business, Pampered Chef.

After trying all of these things, I was frustrated. It seemed like everything out there was a scam or was too hard to get started or required more time, effort or money than I had.

And then I finally found the perfect solution - affiliate marketing! Yes, this is a business I can do from home. I can be with my kids and still contribute to the family. There’s huge potential to make more money than at my office job. Plus, I can work on campaigns and projects that I like. And there’s very little financial investment. I told you it’s perfect! (Well, almost. I guess nothing is really perfect. )

Now, when I first started, I was bumbling about, trying to figure it out all on my own. But then THANK GOODNESS, I was led to The Wealthy Affiliate University, a web site dedicated to giving step-by-step affiliate marketing guidance.

I never thought I would actually join…and then stay. But now I can’t leave! (I tried, I can’t do it. It’s just too good there.) There are so many tools…free web hosting, a writing tool, a web site builder and they even have their own job board. The best part of Wealthy Affiliate is their forum as there are people of all levels supporting each other, answering questions and basically just guiding you along.

As with anything, it’s not perfect. While I love the forum, and I’ve probably learned more from there than any other course or book, there can be some misinformation on there that’s hard to sort through. And the price is a little steep if you’re just starting out in affiliate marketing. Then again, for the information and tools you get, I think it’s worth every penny. Plus, they have an outstanding affiliate program where you can not only build a recurring, residual income home business, but you can also quickly cover the cost of your own membership.

Anyway, affiliate marketing is a great solution for me. It’s the ultimate residual income home business for me. I love it when I receive commission from a site that I created months ago and haven’t touched since.
